i need to borrow about 5 grand to clear some debts and ive been approved for a capital one credit card. Ive gone for a card because i can make min payments some months if things are tight. I can afford about 80 per month on my debts and just wondered how much a personal loan would be for this amount and if it would be better?

unless your credit card is offering 0% interest, it is almost certainly cheaper to take out a loan as the rate charged is usually a lot less. you can extend the term so that the monthly payments are affordable and you are more likley to pay it off rather than make minimum payments.

If your credit is fair to decent then id say 100% go for a loan. On the other hand if your credit isn't that great then sometimes their is little difference with a credit card and as you say, if you need to you can pay less some months. Word of caution though, if you do plan on making the minimum payment every month you should seriously rethink as youll make your debts even worse. Cards are only good if you clear the balance right away.

Personal loan would be the way to go! :) with the credit card you will end up charging it to the limit which will hurt your credit as well and b/c it's variable it could shoot up to 20% or more because of a late payment even by a day. credit cards will trap you in anyway they can and you don't want that.

I Agree with Coverdale. Credit cards can become a nightmare as a means of borring large sums as they can end up never being paid off. You also run the risk of missing payments with the inevitable results, and also, they usually hike up the interest rates. Stick with a personal loans and at least you will know where you are with the payments and when the loan will be paid back.

Well technically, i think they do have the same value. For instance, you loan then theirs a need of paying it eventually, on the other hand when using a credit card then you need to pay for it as well. So theirs no difference. Just a matter of spending i guess - which matters the most, cause if you were unable to spend it wisely, then you'll be in a lot of trouble. Something i learned at www.lendingwanted.com
