Can somone please let me know why every broker that I have tried to get an unsecured loan from is trying to charge me a set up fee. There is absolutely no way I am paying a fee for a broker to find a loan for me when there is no guarentee that i'll get it.

I am unable to get a loan from my bank but i still dont see why because of this i now have to start paying for companies to find one for me. Does anyone know of anywhere that i can go to get one directly?

If you haven't already give Welcome Finance or Blackhorse a try. Their both lenders so you can cut out the middlemen completely, plus I dont think either charge fees...but dont quote me on that.

I know exactly what u mean mate. Ive been duped by one of these companies in the past (hammond loans i think). Didn't get a loan, didn't get my money back absolute joke. Your dead right to refuse to pay. Mark.

theres loads of places you can apply for a loan without paying for the privilege of doing so. Take the advice in post 2 if you haven't already and go direct but thats not to say that you should discount brokers either, just dont pay an upfront fee.

There seems to be 3 or 4 frequent offenders for this. I looked around a few other forums and it seems that in most cases people who pay these fees are unsuccesful in getting a loan. It does appear to be perfectly above board for firms to do this though, so maybe thats what needs looking at.
